Recently I have returned from an amazing holiday in Australia.  There were lots of cocktails, fun with my family and friends, plus plenty of beach action.  While the fabulous heat was perfect for the beach, the after effects were not, especially for my hair. The dry heat along with the salt water, sand plus some straightening with the iron, left my thin dry hair in a tangly and damaged state. On certain occasions it was almost impossible to run a brush through my locks (ouch).

Concerned for my hairs health, I decided I would go down a chemical free path for regaining strength, moisture and shine. Now that I am home in Singapore and I have full use of my own kitchen, I whipped up one of my favourite hair masks, known for its moisturising effects, the coconut oil hair mask. All details are listed below:

Coconut Oil Hair Mask

A friend of mine, who is also a hairdresser, kindly pointed out my hair breakage (eek)! He then mentioned that a lot of his Indian clientele regularly leave coconut oil in their hair to regain moisture, help with breakage and shine.  Taking this on board, I then got to researching and found that the below combo worked absolute wonders on my hair. This mask not only smells delicious, but it also a perfect moisturiser for lovely long manes.

2 parts Coconut oil
1 part Olive oil (optional)

(The above will depend on how long your hair is)

  1. Combine coconut and olive oil in a small bowl and mix
  2. Apply the mixture to your hair, massaging it all the way through to the ends
  3. Wrap hair in a bun on top of your head, cover with a shower cap and leave on for 20-30 minutes (depending on how damaged your hair is)
  4. Rinse hair in the shower
  5. Shampoo and condition as usual
I like to comb the mask through before tying it up in a bun
